Seen: Mainframe + Pocketful of Monsters @ MK Melrose

Dean Bradley (aka Mainframe) officially released his Mainframe Figure from STRANGEco at Munky King Melrose last night (10.10.07).  Three colorways were available — Solid Orange (400 pc), Duck Season Camo (500 pcs), and Hi-Gloss White (200 pcs). In addition, Dean’s  artist exclusive Green Camo colorway (100 pcs) was also on display along with several custom Mainframes (DGPH, Luke Chueh, Peekaboo Monster and more).  Rounding out the figures, Dean offered a fun look back to the beginnings with a sweet display of his original hand-made prototypes.  In these protos you can see his passion for getting them made by any means necessary — the texture on the protos comes from the styrofoam cups used in production.

Mainframe started as a way for Dean to reflect upon his reliance on the computer for his graphic design work.  He’s been drawing Mainframe ever since,  so he fittingly presented a nice retrospective look back at his signature character which included original illustrations and drawings.  Building on his love for "battles" he offered several collaborative giclee prints featuring well-known artists lending their style and characters to Mainframe’s universe.

Dean’s love of collaboration showed through with fellow Pocketful of Monsters Crew members Angry Woebots and Peekaboo Monster  showing off their skills on live painting both on wood boards and several lovely models.  It’s one thing to see an angry panda on a board but it’s quite another to see one done in pink on a woman’s belly.  Things really hit a new level when Aaron broke out his rumored hand-made Ewok suit.  Honestly we were convinced the suit was a tall-tale, but after some encouragement from Dean he broke it out and strutted into the room.  While he complained about being hot he certainly enjoyed the extra attention from the models as you can see in the pics.  If not for the heat, he’d probably walk around as natural as can be as an Ewok — who needs puppies or flowers when you can BE a cuddly ewok.

The turnout was strong throughout the night, congrats to Dean, STRANGEco, Munkyking and Woebots and Peekaboo on a sweet event — one to remember.
