Seen: Greg “Craola” Simkins – I’M SCAR3D (10.12.07)

Greg "Craola" Simkins continues to impress with  a sold out opening of his  I’M SCAR3D solo @ Gallery 1988 this past Friday (10.12.07).  Before the show I would have said that I prefer his intricate scene pieces featuring a multitude of characters.  However, that was before his massive 4 foot x 6 foot Winter’s Knight centerpiece painting.  Next level work — so much detail rendered seemingly effortlessly, super clean.  Judging by the constant crowd parked in front of the painting, others felt the same way.  By 8:30 PM or so, the gallery was packed with people — Greg has a very broad fan base crossing young with older.

In addition to the paintings, Craola offered several really nice pen and ink sketches.  If you’re looking to collect some OG pieces at a relatively low price — this is the way to go, if you can get ’em.  Finally, 1988 offered a very nice 1:1 scale giclee on canvas of Winter’s Walk with Mr. Crisp, limited to just 25 pieces —  sold out.

Even though the show is sold out, you should definitely find some time to go down to the gallery and enjoy this new body of work — it runs through November 2nd, 2007.
