UNKL will release a special 12" HazMaPo crossover with Kow Yokoyama  on February 23rd, 2007 at the upcoming New York Comic-Con in Toy Tokyo's booth. The figure's "Kamo" features silhouettes of Kow's Maschinen Krieger vehicles.   Since Kow's solo show at Compound in Portland, he has been working with UNKL to bring his mechanical visions to life in vinyl.  In addition to this HazMapo, UNKL will be releasing the MakPo based on Kow's Maschinen Krieger universe  at this year's SDCC.

Proto Monday >> Goldo by Mist

Today we're excited to bring you the first full look at prototypes of  Mist's new figure, Goldo, coming in '07 from Bonustoyz.  As you can see in these pics, Goldo is very detailed (especially the flanged detail on wrists/hands) and merges the overall shape and tail of Malus with a head reminiscent of Orus.  With Goldo, Mist has relaxed the graff elements to focus on his character as a demonic warrior.   Goldo's nasty weapon delivers destruction both as a dual bladed monster or he can also dual wield it in both hands (thanks to what appears to be a removable left hand). Just in case you're wondering -- the photos with the mixed colors are of an earlier prototype while the solid grey are of a more recent version.  With the ambitious design and success of Orus in '06, it's great to see Mist coming back strong again for '07 with Goldo.

Daniel Goffin -- Valiant Little Tailor, Custom Toby HK

Idle (Daniel Goffin) created this great custom Toby HK figure based on the Brothers Grimm's Valiant Little Tailor tale, specifically the following passage:

"Oh, indeed?" answered the little tailor, and unbuttoned his coat, and
showed the giant the girdle. "There mayst thou read what kind of a man I am!"
The giant read, "Seven at one stroke," and thought that they had been men whom
the tailor had killed, and began to feel a little respect for the tiny fellow.
Nevertheless, he wished to try him first, and took a stone in his hand and
squeezed it together so that water dropped out of it. "Do that likewise," said
the giant, "if thou hast strength?" "Is that all?" said the tailor, "that is
child's play with us!" and put his hand into his pocket, brought out the soft
cheese, and pressed it until the liquid ran out of it. "Faith," said he, "that
was a little better, wasn't it?" The giant did not know what to say, and could
not believe it of the little man.

Daniel has updated the look of the tailor with a more modern urban look -- bright colors and tats.  The tailor wields a huge needle threaded through the messenger bag and holds the squeezed cheese in his other hand.  The base of the toy carries a banner which retells the tailor's story. The  key to the piece though is the artistic reworking of the figure's form - from slanting the head into a boastful and proud cocked back position to the reworked arms.  Great stuff -- interesting inspiration, good execution, and an unusual but fitting choice for the figure.
