Stephanie Barnes - Penelope ORLANDO, Saturday, 12/16/06: A roster of comics industry artists had their handywork on display at Überbot, in Winter Park Florida, in preparation for the Holiday Heroes charity auction. Munnys designed by Evan Dorkin, Matt Wagner, Phil Noto, David Mack, Pop Mhan, Dave Johnson and Mike Allred - just to name a few - were on display and attracted the attention of many a comics and designer toy fan. "It's the first time any comics artist has designed one of these figures," said Überbot owner Steve Lewis.

Dave Johnson's "Blood Spork" received a great deal of attention and was one of the first Munnys to receive a bid on the eBay auction. During a recent phone interview, Johnson, whose credits include covers for the 100 Bullets comic and designs for the first season of the Cartoon Network series Ben 10, was enthusiastic at the idea of his first venture in the designer toy relm. "I've never done anything like this before but always wanted to."

Phil Noto, whose slick, 70's style Bond-girl inspired artwork has adorned books such as Birds of Prey and Danger Girl, made a Munny version of 70's supermodel Twiggy. "The sculpting wasn't so bad but the paint job was a challenge," said Noto who was on hand for the show.

In addition to Holiday Heroes, the works of over 50 local Munny enthusiasts were on display for Überbot's 3rd Munny Show. Designs ranging from the Flash villian Captain Cold to a working Munny video monitor were enjoyed by all. The eBay auction, benefitting Toys For Tots, will run through 12/24.
