Seen: James Jarvis @ Meltdown Comics (7.28.06)

Meltdown Comics hosted James Jarvis this past Friday (07.28.06) for a signing and reception for an exhibition of his prepartory drawings for  Vortigern’s Machine.  If you’ve never been to Meltdown on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, the best way to describe it is a massive store dedicated to comics and related fandom.  The rear portion of the store is reserved as gallery space and has been recently renovated — opening up the space, which was used to good effect both for the massive mural painted by Jarvis on the day of the signing and for the large number of original drawings and sketches on exhibit for purchase.

James was pretty laid back, signing books, Clutter Pink King Kens, and of course copies of Vortigern’s Machine. He was also taking the time to draw really nice sharp sketches for folks.

Since I was definitely going to stop and look at each eye-catching drawing, I decided against better judgement to take a picture of each and everyone (minus one or two stricken by the evil blur or poor lighting gremlins). So here they are… enjoy!  And for more Jarvis goodness, check out Supertouch for an interview and video of the painting of the mural.
