Show Pics: Mini Circus Punks Series 2 Release @ KR LA

STRANGEco’s Mini Circus Punks Series 2 was released at Kidrobot LA this past Thursday.  While I got there a little late (after Baseman’s GR2 signing across town), there was still a good crowd on-hand waiting to meet series artists Greg "Craola" Simkins, Simone Legno (tokidoki) and Joe Ledbetter.  Each artist went out of their way to sign whatever fans wanted from Munnys (always popular), paper bags, dollar bills (plus at least one ten), at least one arm (missed the pic, rats), and oh yeah an occassional Mini CP (probably more earlier on).  This was a nice laid back event thanks to the ace KR staff.  Great to see the artists, CP Paul again, Amy, Henry and to meet Emily from STRANGEco and Bob Dob.  Fun times.  Enjoy the pics.

  1. Jled’s designs are top notch. Almost makes me want to get a circus punk… almost.

  2. JLed design is nice. But never did like Circus Punks as a platform toy. The shape doesn’t lend itself to creattivity up to a level of say a dunny or a Qee. It’s similar to putting artwork on paper and placing fur around it. The JLed designs for example would probably look better as a traditional print. The furs around are a huge distraction. And this goes for a lot of the Circus Punks toys. Just my 2 cents.

  3. DC, I just want to know why you think Circus Punks are a great platform? Can you offer specific reasons from a technical and artistic standpoint. i want to know what you see in these.

  4. Keep your 2 cents, your tacky life and go away. You peeps obviously don’t have a creative bone to speak of. See you at SDCC!

  5. CP is definitely exploiting JLED. Joe is an upcoming artist and he should be more picky about who he’s doing business with. I question his partnership with Circus Punks.
    I mean, come on now.
Circus Punks is same company that is trying to peddle character floor mats (rugs) as art. Rugs?!? HAHAHAHA. Someone explain how you go from pseudo-art toys to rugs? Can a company be anymore desperate?

  6. WOW! Have a go and rip on CP, you sorry sad human. Jled happens to be a close friend and supports us whole hearted. HAHAHA! -Bring it on pal, seems your being desperate and begging for confliict. Did your mom say you had to stay in today and clean your room.

  7. in response i find the CP platform super fun , ultra-unique, and is a great way to express art, for the artist, and the collector. CP’s are just plain Fun, kooky, entertaining and have a youth appeal i think most understand or envision…i mean the 30’JLED’s are amazing in person i mean wow. . the one reason many might not like them is they are construed as Lowbrow art, (which i like)you have to live like a circus punk to get it. Its all americana baby! love it or leave it alone!

  8. Jim, I don’t know why you find the need to insult people who disagree with your point of view. I’m just expressing my opinion. Is that forbidden now? If I want to rip CP just for the sake of ripping CP, I’ll make posts that will make C-3PO’s post seem like a praise. Grow up you clown.
DC – Thanks for your response. That’s just it, it’s all americana, which not everyone (at least those that didn’t grew up in America – like me) can relate to. That’s why for me it looks really strange.

  9. well at least it invoked a response!so you are intrigued! buy one just to throw balls at like they were originaly used for!haha.
P.S. Jim don’t ever grow up, that would mean retirement! I would take off the big red shoes till they come back in style.

  10. Circus punks, the company, is laughable. Their business sense is not their strongest suit. They don’t take criticism very well. A lot of stores have refused to carry their items because of such behavior. Please don’t grow up. Keep it up CP. Dissappear!

  11. When I say “grow up”, I mean emotionally. The way CP has been reacting to criticisms have been very childish to say the least. Frank Kozik has been criticized a lot for all the colorways he’s been producing, among others, but he’s cool and handles it in a calm rational manner. CP just throws a huge tantrum like a child who doesn’t get his way. Perhaps it’s a sign of low self-esteem.

  12. A few things from the guy that started CP…
    1) Definately “Americana” and I aint the biggest patriot per say but I do love the shape and carnie feel. People outside the US don’t usually understand and I respect that wholeheartedly.
    2) JLed & Amy…Some of our better friends…No worries!
    3) I gotta refer back to Biskup, Baseman & Conor all agreeing during a LA museum lecture that CP probably is the BEST “platform” canvas to express their art. Hmmmm. Their opinions or yours? All opinions are valid but I’m rolling with theirs when I go to sleep at night.
    4) Peddling rugs? Yep.
    5) Alienating stores? AGREED! I think you’re probably referring to “ebay only sellers” – put the squash on them ages ago…They add ZERO VALUE. I’ll throw MY SUPPORT behind those that have web stores that were in it from the begining along with OF COURSE brick & mortar. Some stores may not like our “attitudes” as being childish (I agree most times) but NOT ONE can say we treated them less than honorably…NOT ONE. Credit terms? How about 6 months to pay? We’ve done plenty. I do think we’ve alienated those stores that did get stuck with CPs…Some truly did. Their fault or ours it doesn’t matter BUT I strongly encouraged them all to be careful when “ordering up” – and remember most did this when they thought we were the “hot thing”…
6)I’d be much more willing to take your critiques if A) You were willing to post who you are and how to get in touch with you so we’re not hiding behind a screen and B) You yourself HAD SOMETHING – ANYTHING creative going where you dedicated 40 hours a week and knew for sure you wouldn’t make a dime. We on the CP team all earn about 5% of what our real “70 hour a week jobs pay”…And split the rest of the time between COLLECTING, FAMILIES AND the blood, sweat and tears you see as CP.
All love…Call anytime at 559-623-6009 or do what other haters/cowards have done and just sign us up for “sales calls”…It’s your choice.

  13. One last thought…A few of these posts are TYPICAL internet posts…Every single retailer or e-tailer that’s still in business and started in a committed way with Circus Punks is still doing them…If not – Name one. You won’t. ‘Nuff said.
