Plush Week Opening Night @ Gallery 1988
Plush Week opened on Tuesday, February 7th at Gallery 1988 on trendy Melrose Ave in West Hollywood, California. This week-long show (hence the name) featured an incredibly diverse and high quality collection of designer plush toys from including Anna Chambers, Jenny Harada, Shawnimals, Thomas Han and many many more. While our first love is designer vinl, this show just might make us true believers in the power of plush. Curated by Katie Cromwell (Gallery 1988) and Jon M. Gibson (I am 8-bit), Plush Week was certainly one of the most impressive collections of designer plush we’ve ever had the pleasure to see.
Judging by the huge turnout (especially since it was a Tuesday night), we were not the only ones impressed with the show offerings. The gallery was crowded to the point that walking around involved politely navigating through and around people soaking in the plush art and taking picture after picture. While not quite as crowded as the night of the LA Dunny opening held about a week prior, it was close and that’s quite an accomplishment from our point of view.

You know, it started with those damn Ugly Dolls, and it's spiralled out of control from there. While our actual oddball indie plushtoy purchases are very few--the kid did get that Bunny Foo Foo for Christmas--I've become a fan of the idea of artist-mad... [Read More]
